There are twelve great and magical oceans, also known as the Gift Waters, giving different powers to those who drink of them.
The more pure the potion of water, and the greater the innate potential of the one drinking it, the greater the effect.
However, once a person drinks the water from any one of these oceans, they become waterbound, meaning that they can drink from none
of the others, or they will develop the incurable, fatal disease known as crixalethicis.
The oceans are separated by various continents and land bridges, as the waters may never meet.

The Atrejan Ocean gives power over the stars. Those who drink of its waters can hear
the movements and positions of the stars, to discover where they have been thousands of years ago, or where they are going to be
thousands of years from now, even the otherwise unpredictable yellow stars.
The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Star Waters" or "Sun Waters" because of the knowledge they give of the stars in the sky.
Those who drink of this, however, are usually held in low esteem, because of the limited uses for their powers.
When they do find acceptance, it is in astronomy or navigation at sea.
The Elanatin Ocean gives power over emotions and thoughts. Those who drink of its waters can read
the emotions and thoughts of others, and sometimes influence or even control them. They can also influence animals to subdue and tame them.
The Gradaken Ocean gives power over nature. Those who drink of its waters can control plants
and animals. By this, they can bring on a far richer harvest and can even command animals to perform complex tasks.
The Ikkith Tar Ocean gives power over darkness. Those who drink of its waters can create their
own darkness in which to hide. They can use this to create areas of incredible cold, and freeze other waters to become ice.
The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Dark Waters" or "Shadow Waters" because of the ability they give to
conceal things in darkness. Along with the Lujladia Ocean, they are sometimes referred to as the
"Maze Waters", because they affect light and distort the perceptions of those sailing across them, making navigation difficult and dangerous.
The Kazofen Ocean gives power over stones, both ordinary stones and gemstones.
Those who drink of its waters can mold stones as if they were clay, giving them a new cut, or even altering
their clarity to become lighter or darker. The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Diamond Waters"
because of the powers that they give to manipulate diamonds (as well as rubies, sapphires and emeralds.)
The Lujladia Ocean gives power over light.
Those who drink of its waters can generate their own light, and even create illusions.
They can bend light to observe the features of fast moving objects.
They can see around solid objects, look into any darkness, and sometimes even dispel it.
Along with the Ikkith Tar Ocean, they are sometimes referred to as the "Maze Waters",
because they affect light and distort the perceptions of those sailing across them, making navigation difficult and dangerous.
The Medathero Ocean gives the power of logic.
Those who drink of its waters have greatly enhanced reasoning powers, able to formulate and solve complex equations in their minds,
rapidly, even under stress. They can clearly understand the many complex facets of the other waters and their powers, even though they cannot wield those
powers for themselves.
The Nabavodel Ocean gives the power of strength and dexterity.
Those who drink of its waters have immense physical prowess, including speed, coordination and strength. They also have substantially
elevated resistance to disease, though nowhere near that of those who drink the waters of the Trerada Ocean.
The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Tiger Waters" for the advantages in battle that they give.
The Pirovalen Ocean gives the power of music and song. Those who drink of its waters do not
need musical instruments, as their voices have the richness of a full symphony orchestra. With the proper lyrics, melody and tempo, it is
possible to renew energy, cure physical diseases (except crixalethicis), control animals and even affect those in the spirit world.
The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Song Waters" because of the enhanced ability they confer for music.
The Trerada Ocean gives the power of physical health. Those who drink of its waters do not
contract diseases (although they are not immune to crixalethicis.) Even magical attacks from the spirit world seem
to have no effect on them. Additionally, they are considerably more attractive than those around them, even seductive.
The Ursegan Ocean gives the power of extreme long life: actually, the power to slow the passage
of time. Those who drink of its waters live thousands or even tens of thousands of years. They are not immune to disease,
although it progresses slowly (except from crixalethicis.) They can perceive fast moving events in slow motion,
enabling them to observe the details.
The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Time Waters" because of their association with the slowness of time.
The Zovvin Ocean gives the power to connect with the spirit world. Those who drink of its
waters can sense spirits, and call out to them. They can even become
immaterial for a time, and then enter into and travel through the spirit world, returning to the material world in a different
location, effectively passing through physical barriers.
The waters of this ocean are sometimes referred to as the "Ghost Waters" because of their association with spirits.
The Dead Waters Ocean is not a great or magical ocean, and gives no power at all. Its waters merely
provide basic hydration. The water in it does not cause a waterbinding, and is drinkable by anyone, even if they've chosen
one of the great oceans. Many of the lakes, rivers and streams of the world are of the same "dead water", so it is plentiful and
readily available.
